We’re living in amazing times. Between a global pandemic, economic challenges, record unemployment and bitter political strife, it can be hard to find peace. Suicides are on the rise, along with drug addiction. Divorces are skyrocketing. The institutions and principles our lives have been built upon – faith, family and community – are tested and mocked. Where can we find rest from it all?
Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and loaded down with burdens, and I will give you rest.”
(Matthew 11:28)
The apostle Paul said, “Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.”
(Philippians 4:6-7)
No matter how big the problems and challenges in your life, know that God is bigger. And he loves you, cares about you, and wants to help you. God isn’t some white-bearded old man in the sky. He’s all-powerful and always present, only a prayer away.
Sometimes people have wandered from the faith or never really had a relationship with God and they want to know how to pray. It’s easy. Talk to God just as you would to a loving parent. Tell him you’re sorry for the times you messed up and gave in to sin, ask Him to help you do better, and tell Him you accept the gift of salvation He gave you though Jesus Christ. And then just open up your heart and tell Him what’s on your mind. He never tires of hearing from His children.
Get yourself a bible. If you don’t have one, contact us at Community Shepherds and we’ll send one to you. Read the scriptures (I recommend starting in the Gospel of John) and keep on praying. You’ll be amazed at the changes God will bring into your life.
So don’t get upset as the world around us seems to go insane. Know that the Creator of the world is watching and eager to help anyone who will call on him with a true heart. Feel God’s presence, and know you are loved.
